You are invited to sit in on an enchanting musical conversation between two renowned artists: Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky, finding the spoken music in his poems, and Grammy-award winning pianist Laurence Hobgood, replying through the improvisation of jazz. PoemJazz is a unique collaboration, rich with the spontaneity that comes with great creative talent. And it's all for a good cause: raising funds for restoration of the Meeting House.
Extend the experience at a post-concert reception in the nearby Ames Chapel - a short walk or drive through historic Hingham Cemetery. Meet Mr. Pinsky and Mr. Hobgood, enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres, and celebrate this unique collaboration between poetry, music and history.
Robert Pinsky, three-term United States Poet Laureate, has been dedicated to identifying and invigorating poetry’s place in the world. He founded the Favorite Poem Project, in which thousands of Americans of varying backgrounds and ages share their favorite poems, and his popular Massive Online Open Course, “The Art of Poetry,” has been available to the public since 2014. Elegant and tough, vividly imaginative, Pinsky’s poems have earned praise for their wild musical energy and range. In October, 2022, Mr. Pinsky published a memoir, Jersey Breaks: Becoming an American Poet. He and Laurence Hobgood, a Grammy-Award winning jazz pianist, composer, arranger and producer, created PoemJazz to reveal the intricate connections between poetry and jazz.
